This week started on a great note, and then crashed hard!

We all went to drive the go karts after eating a little lunch. It was so cool because there were other gringos there, so it gave me a little more competition! I lost once due to a blown tire in the middle of the race, but I still managed to hold on to second place!

Still the King!

Still the King!

We came back in the nighttime to do some contacting and visiting some less actives! I was on splits in another area with another gringo, Elder Beyeler! We tapped this one door, and a girl with straight teeth came out! I say straight teeth, because it’s a rarity down here! She even had all of them! She was about 22 years old, and is less active in church. She had to retire from her line of work if she wanted to take the sacrament again (that’s what her bishop told her) but she makes good money, so she can’t do that. If you know what I’m talking about, you catch on quick! Needless to say, she came to the English classes we had the next day! She hasn’t been to church in more than three years, so this is a huge step! She met up with the members that were there, and got talking for a while. It might have helped that it was two gringos who knocked her door, but she is coming back! Nothing is impossible for Him!

Baptism last week!

Baptism last week!

So after we finished the English class, we received some horrible news! A 15 year old kid from our ward just died! He just passed the Sacrament this past Sunday, and now he has passed on. He was just walking in the street going to pick up his little sister from school, and the doctors say that his heart failed. The truth is I don’t think that is the case! I believe that God took his spirit from his body in mid flight! No one can say exactly how it happened, but this is how I think it happened! At least he died on a Monday and not a Saturday, because he took the Sacrament on Sunday and was active in the church! His mom is a nonmember, so it’s hard for her to understand why this happened and where he is now! This boy was named Juan Carlos. He was one of the first people to include me in the soccer games at church! He was one of the sweetest, most down to earth, and funny kids that I have met. Sometimes life just doesn’t seem fair, when God only seems to take the good people… all of the people that I’ve known that have passed on, have been some of the best, most humble people that I know. It almost seems like God needs to reinforce his army on the other side and for this reason, he allows stuff like this to happen.

Anyways, it’s been a rough week, but all is well in Zion! Keep pushing on, and don’t let one minute pass you by. It may not come again. Life is what you make it, so make it count!
